A common question that most people still find themselves asking today, especially those too busy to think or indulge in such a thing is:

Is TikTok Really Such A Big Deal?

The answer is obvious in nature: indeed, it is as big as everyone thinks.

For anyone who does not know what exactly that is, it is the social media site started by Zhang Yiming, an internet entrepreneur. This app used to specifically make dance videos, but amid the pandemic of COVID-19 which started in 2020, a new use was found: a studio where people could be as creative as they possibly could be.

Even though the popularity of the app skyrocketed, many people were admittedly still wary of the site, thinking that it would not go much further than being a kid’s app that would be used for dance and lip-syncing to the popular music of the current day, and thus, many adults struggled migrating to it, until it presented its many sides: the fact pages, the comedy creators, the musicians and more!

Do People Engage?

Prominent public speaker and business mogul Vusi Thembekwayo confessed in a podcast that he did not think TikTok to be the sensation it was credited to be. Many still view it as a kid’s app where children from all over the world convened to dance to the Renegade or make an edit to the latest song, but many businesses find themselves making TikTok content for themselves.

This is because there so many eyes on the social media app that it would be wasted to not take advantage of it. There are so many corners of TikTok that your feed (called a For You Page on this particular social media tool) becomes a direct reflection of your own personality. No two For You pages ever look the same, even the following list may be similar.

How Does That Help Me?

This may seem like a disadvantage to some people, but it is actually a great asset for marketing. Since the site has found it possible to make that much of a distinction between its clients, it means that marketing there specially resonates with the person looking at the screen. It’s almost as if you pointed into a sea of people and picked someone out specially to give them something that they may have needed for the longest of times or those that did not know that they needed it before you appeared to give it to them.

It started off with businesses showcasing their products and work culture there, and many prominent speakers have begun using the TikTok space to give short clips of advice to the upcoming generation.

It comes to show, that there is no such thing as a wasted effort in the world of business. Such tools give you the ability to control the narrative for yourself, so it would not be the wisest thing to discount the many places you would be able to reach a new customer.
